'Every SaaS company will become a GaaS company': the line that named a market
At GTC 2026, NVIDIA's CEO gave the shift from software you operate to agents you buy its clearest one-sentence case. It also gave this beat its name.

- The line captured the shift this publication covers: from software a person operates to agents that hand back a finished outcome.
- It also gave the framing its name, moving "GaaS," Agentic AI as a Service, from niche jargon to a term with a marquee backer.
- The remark is real and widely reported. It is the closest thing the agent economy has to a founding soundbite.
Some markets get named by analysts. This one got named on a keynote stage. At NVIDIA's GTC 2026, chief executive Jensen Huang told the room that "every SaaS company will become a GaaS company," a line that framed the next software battle as a fight over outcomes rather than seats. It is the sentence this publication is named after, so it is worth being precise about what he actually said and why it landed.
What he said
Huang's argument was simple. For two decades, software was sold as a tool a person logs into and operates, the SaaS model. Agentic AI changes the unit. Instead of renting a tool, a customer hands an agent a goal and receives the finished work. In his framing, a GaaS company sells the outcome, not the seat. Coming from the CEO whose chips train and run most of these agents, the claim carried weight beyond the usual conference hyperbole.
Why the line matters
A good soundbite does two things: it compresses a messy shift into one idea, and it gives that idea a name people can repeat. Huang's did both. Before GTC, "agentic AI as a service" was a mouthful used by a handful of analysts. After it, "GaaS" had a marquee backer and a clean one-sentence case. That is how loosely-held industry terms harden into categories, someone with a big stage says the short version out loud. For the longer version of the argument, see our primer on what GaaS is and our breakdown of how it differs from SaaS.
From soundbite to market
The line would be just a line if the numbers did not follow, but they have. Salesforce agreed to buy the outcome-priced agent Fin for about $3.6 billion. HubSpot moved its AI pricing to charge only for resolved conversations. Sierra crossed $150 million in revenue billing purely on outcomes. Each of those is a company doing exactly what Huang described, selling the finished job instead of the tool. The keynote gave the shift a name. The market is busy proving him right.
